Where Feet May Fail
August 12, 2014
So I got a 10 stop neutral density filter last month and I finally used it yesterday. I was inspired by another article in Popular Photography where this photographer took some amazing photos with his ND filter, his wife, her hat, and the ocean. After picking up my ribonless photos from the OC fair in Costa Mesa, we stopped by Newport Beach, next to the jetty off of 55th street.
I had this vision of Lizzy sitting at the front of the jetty facing the ocean, but it wasn't the safest thing to walk on. So I had her sit on the shore. Thank God for giving me a wife that's patient and willing to get wet without a change of clothes for my photographs. Ten seconds after my unsuspecting wife sat down on our lawn chair, while I was setting up my camera, a large wave came and soaked her from the waist down. She didn't look too happy, but she knew how much I've been wanting to take these photos so she remained patiently seated.
At the end of post processing the photos, "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" by Hillsong started playing in my head. I thought about some of the different trials that I, Lizzy and I, and some of our friends and family have been going through lately; some seem never ending, some outcomes we don't agree with, and none are ever expected or planned for. Then I thought about Job in the Bible, who lost all of his children, his possessions, and his health. He had a wife that told him to curse God and die. He had three annoying "friends" that tried to convince him that his unrighteousness was the reason for him being punished even though he was the most righteous person in the world that had no reason to be punished. I love that Job said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD." I can't admit that that's my first reply or even my second reply to when trials come my way, but its a great reminder of who is good and sovereign.
You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand
