Melrose
February 14, 2015
So Lizzy and I decided to drive up to Melrose after our dentist appointments in Cerritos to do some shopping and people watching. I remember the first time I walked down the eclectic Melrose Ave in high school back in the mid 90s. Visually, the walls were covered with graffiti/street art and the gamut of the fashion spectrum was on display. There were old people, young people, the rich, the poor, and all kinds of cultures walking around. Depending on the shop you could smell vintage clothing, incense , food, or just plain old drugs. Things haven't changed. It still feels like the 90s. Which is is a little refreshing. Where some cities are upping their hip factor by building little enclaves of unique restaurants, chic clothing boutiques, and art galleries (I wish Aliso Viejo made an attempt), Melrose has stayed the same. Its one of LA's little enclaves that hasn't had to change in order to be hip. It just was and still is.
